We’re half-way through January 2020, and the weather so far has proved our forecast of a dry January correct. A measly 8.4 mm have been measured over the past fifteen days. Long-term maps are convincing that the next two weeks will see a continuation of the current drier than average weather. With 94.1 mm of rain in a typical January, the first month of the year is supposedly the second wettest month of the year. This year, we will be lucky to reach one fourth of this. Any rain over the next two weeks will continue to be in the form of isolated showers, with long spells of dry weather before and after brief periods of instability.

Ninsabu f’nofs Jannar 2020, u t-temp sa issa wera li konna korretti fi tbassir tagħna li Jannar kien se jkun niexef aktar minn normal. Total fqir ħafna ta’ 8.4 mm ġie mkejjel fl-aħħar ħmistax ‘il jum. L-aħħar mapep fit-tul huma konvinti li l-ħmistax li ġejjin għandhom jaraw kontinwazzjoni ta’ dan it-temp niexef aktar mill-medja. B’medja ta’ 94.1 mm f’Jannar normali, dan ix-xahar huwa normalment it-tieni l-aktar xahar imxarrab tas-sena. Inkunu ferm fortunati, jekk nilħqu kwart ta’ dan l-ammont din is-sena. Ix-xita matul il-ħmistax li ġejjin se tkompli tiġi f’ħalbiet iżolati tax-xita, b’perjodi twal ta’ nixfa qabel u wara episodji ta’ instabbilita’.
